The new DVD “Luxembourg, A digital visit” is firmly in keeping with the Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO) communications policy for residents and tourists. The DVD takes the viewer into the heart of the capital by means of a virtual visit. The DVD menu features three main menus: thematic, alphabetical and cartographic in 4 different languages (French, English, German and Luxembourgish). In all, a total of no less than 4 hours of illustrated narrative with an original soundtrack covers the multiple aspects of the city, its origins, its history, its remarkable buildings, its fountains, its ruins, its sculptures... The viewer can access 200 sites through the interactive narrative, a photo gallery of more than 3500 pictures, updated and interactive maps and some 60 different atmospheric sounds evoking the flavour of the city. Technically speaking, this new product has taken on some challenges, with more than 300 interactive menus and around 3000 links. The DVD “Luxembourg, A digital visit” is on sale for the modest sum of 5€ from the Luxembourg City Tourist Office as well as from www.lcto.lu .With the aim of improving their residents' and tourist information service, the LCTO has also used the content of the DVD to update its 3 public digital information terminals. These multimedia terminals are situated at the Central Station (2) and on the Place Guillaume II, and provide information about the tourist attractions of the capital, its history, the cultural events calendar, the hotel and restaurant sector along with a wealth of useful practical information accessible through the interactive menu and map. Greatly appreciated by their users, they complement the written material available from the office of the LCTO. The interactive terminals were introduced to the city 17 years ago in 1993 by the LCTO during the preparations for CAP '95 Luxembourg, European City of Culture. Since then, their content is regularly revised and updated.
