Finance, Business and Meetings

Luxembourgish banks are keen to compare their solid reputation with the impregnability of the old fortress walls. Nevertheless, the rise of the city to an international financial metropolis started very modestly: by 1960, a mere 17 banks had settled in Luxembourg, whereas now there are 160. Over the course of the decades, financial institutions registered in Luxembourg have gained international renown and are valued for their know-how, reliability and discretion. Financial activities have expanded to include the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, the Luxembourg Central Bank, numerous holding and trust companies as well as notable insurance companies.

Luxembourg’s financial ventures have significantly contributed to the promotion of art in public places. Many bank buildings have been designed by renowned architects; their forecourts and gardens come alive with original and extraordinary sculptures and structures.

Good motorway links, an international airport and connection to the French TGV network make Luxembourg the ideal location for conferences and business meetings. The Luxexpo exhibition halls host specialist and popular trade fairs during the entire year. Last but not least, the city of Luxembourg is also well known throughout the world of TV and radio. RTL Group, one of Europe’s largest media enterprises, has its headquarters in Luxembourg.

The city of Luxembourg has also become an important commercial centre, attracting clients from all over the Greater Region.
