BALKAN PARTY WITH TOPORKESTRA (UA), MOLOTOV BROTHERS (FR) & DJ BALKALIENTE (FR)
CinEast (Central and Eastern European Film Festival in Luxembourg)
Toporkestra is an ensemble of folk musicians of different ages from various regions of Ukraine and Moldova. Combining the Eastern music traditions of people in Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria with Balkan, gypsy and klezmer music influences, as well as kolomyjka and Soviet pop, the band is notorious for their crazy high-voltage shows. Formed in 2003, Toporkestra have played at over 100 festivals all over Europe, Russia and India, and have performed and collaborated with a large number of outstanding musicians, including Gogol Bordello and Oleg Skrypka. Always on the road, the group plays constantly on stages big and small, at weddings, in streets and subways, on beaches and at parties of all kinds, bringing energy and joy and making their audiences jump up and dance. Beware, they claim to be a magical gypsy punk panic band with the ability to make a baby boom all over the world!
Their show at the Melusina as part of the CinEast 2016 festival will be their first ever performance in Luxembourg and, undoubtedly, a more than solid follow-up on the memorable shows of the bands Fanfara Transylvania and Klezmafour.
The Molotov Brothers is a collaboration between the wild DJ Balkaliente (beats & trombone) and the talented clarinet & sax player Samuel Maquin, a specialist in Eastern European music. This dangerous duo takes the audience by storm with shows full of whirling and bubbling energy. As a genuine laboratory of Balkan sounds blending gypsy and traditional music flavours with electronic machines and live instruments, the Molotov Brothers offer a highly explosive cocktail of feverish dance and memorable moments!
DJ Balkaliente is a multi-talented musician and DJ delivering hot chili sets in Balkan style, spiced up with his live trombone. Recycling the most acid Balkan beats melded with the best of cumbia/afro/Brazil/reggae/ska/drum'n'bass/electro, his mixes are like a tsunami of positive energy that really turns up the heat on the dancefloor!
