Noted Japanese film director Isao Yamada, whose most recent release is the feature-length Sturm und Drang, has been recognized for his art films since 1977. His work has been featured at Cannes and other festivals. In addition to his work in cinema, Yamada is also known for his work in manga, painting and graphic design. Mostly working with 8mm film, Dir. Yamada is acclaimed for his poetical interpretation of phenomena, capturing momental beauty and instant ephemerality in the world of man and nature. Given the sensually aesthetic treatment of subtlety and tranquility, his films often float between reality and dream.
