International arts project « Play Me, I’m Yours » for its first edition in Luxembourg with sixteen street pianos

The City of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg City Tourist Office are pleased to host the prestigious international art project « Play Me, I’m Yours » for its very first edition in Luxembourg from 7 to 21 June 2014. Sixteen street pianos – one of them mobile - will invade public space in Luxembourg’s capital city and bring joy to both inhabitants and visitors. The pianos will be decorated by youth community groups and schools and will then be located in municipal parks, streets and squares across the city from 7 to 21 June 2014. The street pianos will be available for anyone to play and enjoy, thus creating a participatory and spontaneous ambiance!  During these two weeks, amateurs as well as professional musicians are welcome to improvise micro-concerts. Finally, after the event, the pianos will be available for donation to not-for-profit community groups, schools or youth associations.

Play Me, I’m Yours is a participatory street piano project by the artist Luke Jerram and has been touring internationally since 2008. Over 1300 street pianos have been installed in 45 cities across the globe, bearing the simple invitation to Play Me, I’m Yours! The project has already reached more than four million people worldwide. Each new city that commissions the artwork becomes part of this growing international legacy.

‘The idea for Play Me, I’m Yours came from visiting my local launderette. I saw the same people there each weekend and yet no one talked to one another. I suddenly realised that within a city, there must be hundreds of these invisible communities, regularly spending time with one another in silence. Placing a piano into the space was my solution to this problem, acting as a catalyst for conversation and changing the dynamics of a space.
